I am writing this a few days later as sadness sweeps over me. The day began with my usually trip to Starbucks for Sarah and I. We got dressed in our finest clothes, Sarah is a lovey tan dress and me with my Ivory linen pants, white shirt and linen blue blazer.
We had a wonderful breakfast at Cafe Nells at around 11 am making sure we were fortified with the day. I had written some notes to tell some stories about Bill and I.
The Reverend who took care of Bill at Hospice spoke first giving a short overview of his life and giving the order of speakers. Bronwyn spoke with a funny story about her dads love of looking after even the insects that invaded his home. Bronwyn broke down during parts of her story. Sarah follow with a short speak about her dad
I was up next and regaled the audience with stories of Bill and I travel adventures. Wonderful funny stories and how Bill represent the dad I didn’t have and I the son he never had. Half way though with me having the crowd laughing at every turn. Sarah gives me the sign to cut it! I sad my wife is cutting me off and I feel like a vaudeville performer whose bombing and the cane is yanking me off.
Afterwardwe had some laughs as strangers asked me to speak at their memorial and just tell stories. I was touched with how well received my talk went.
They put out a lovely meal and then we all went to the community center for more talk and food. The night ending in truly a Celebration of this wonderful man’s life. He was a good soul as my mother would say.
